PVC Frames
PVC frames are a smart solution for those seeking efficiency at affordable prices. They are ideal for low temperatures and areas near the sea.
They have a long lifespan and offer very high levels of sound and thermal insulation since their material is a poor conductor of heat. This means that PVC frames save a significant amount of energy in your home or business.
Professional Frame undertakes the construction and installation of PVC windows, balcony doors, and PVC doors.
PVC Frames Based on Opening Mechanism
Hinged: Hinged PVC frames differ from other types due to their opening mechanism. They can be made with one or more leaves. They can also include tilt-and-turn mechanisms and can be perfectly combined with aluminum screens.
Some of the biggest advantages of hinged PVC frames (Polyvinyl Chloride) are their superior thermal and sound insulation properties, as well as their resistance to moisture.
Their superiority is mainly due to the perimeter mechanisms and seals they include. Their only drawbacks may be the slightly higher price compared to sliding frames and the need for free space in front of the frame to open and close.
Sliding: Sliding PVC frames differ due to their special rolling mechanism with rails on which the frame moves. The two main categories are parallel and recessed.
In parallel sliding frames, the leaves move parallel, and one side always remains closed as one frame slides next to the other.
Recessed PVC frames have the advantage of being able to be embedded into the wall, thus saving space.
Their drawback is reduced thermal and sound insulation properties, which can be balanced if they are lift-and-slide.
Fixed: Fixed PVC frames have excellent insulating properties in terms of heat and sound, affordable prices, and can cover a wide range of needs.
They offer increased visibility and brightness in the space and have easier, faster, and more economical installation compared to aluminum windows. Fixed PVC frames are ideal for shop windows, small bathroom windows, partitions, and facades.
They are almost always combined with hinged or sliding PVC frames and are divided based on their insulating properties into thermal break and cold.
Energy-Efficient & Regular PVC Frames
PVC frames stand out for their great durability over time and in harsh weather conditions. Additionally, they are lightweight and have a low maintenance cost. The two main categories of PVC frames, as in aluminum, are thermal break and regular (cold).
The main difference between these two types is an insulating material in the profile of thermal break frames, which increases their insulating properties. Another difference can be in the glass, which can be double or triple and may include a special film on the surface for even greater insulation.
Types of Shutters for PVC Frames
The shutter of PVC frames can be stored in two different types of boxes, external and overhead. These two categories naturally have their advantages and disadvantages. They are generally more functional than shutters, with the aesthetic drawback of the box being above the frame.
Additionally, due to this box, they have greater heat and sound losses. This can be avoided since there are now also thermal break aluminum shutters with special insulating material on the inside. Below we will see in detail the main disadvantages and advantages.
External Shutters: Advantages:
- Higher thermal insulation properties compared to simple overhead shutters.
- Their use maintains the useful height from the windows as they are installed on the exterior side above the frame.
Disadvantages:
- Reduced aesthetics (due to protruding from the wall), compared to overhead shutters.
- They only operate with the use of a motor, so manual use is not possible in case of need.
- Reduced security levels as their box is exposed and accessible to anyone.
- Higher difficulty in repairs and maintenance unless there are balconies or terraces allowing direct access.
Overhead Shutters: Advantages:
- Higher security levels compared to external ones, as the guides are installed behind the frame.
- Multiple options for raising and lowering the shutters, as it can be done manually, electrically, or even a combination of both.
- Easier maintenance and repair work as they are accessible from inside the residence.
- Improved aesthetics as they blend better with the building’s overall appearance.
Disadvantages:
- One of the main disadvantages is that their use reduces the useful height of the window since they are placed under the frame, within the wall.
- Without thermal break, overhead shutters have reduced thermal insulation properties.
Some Information About PVC Frames
- Excellent construction and proper installation of PVC frames increase the reduction of energy losses.
- PVC frames can be made with double glazing, thus further reducing their energy footprint.
- PVC has a very long lifespan and better durability than wooden frames.
- PVC frames do not need to be painted, meaning less maintenance and lower long-term costs.
- They are lightweight, and their installation is easy.
- PVC is highly resistant to weather conditions and corrosion from rust.
